→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: IS THE SELF AN ILLUSION
vertical line Posted on May.03.2018 @ 04:39PM EDT by maapaa
though i cant explain it, i feel like the self is an illusion. when i concrentrate mindfully and the questions slip away, i am just here, present. my mind tranquil or not, is here too, thinking or not thinking, it matters not i dont attach to what im thinking for the most part, instead i just sort of watch the mind play its games. when a question pops up, i watch the mind, then the question settles. all there is, is awareness, awareness of i am sitting here. awareness of i am thinking this thing, awareness of i must do that thing later. awareness of my feelings regarding topics. i feel awareness none the less. so im writing my philosophy essay on the mind, how can i write 10,000 words about this simple concept. to over evaluate it, to overthink it, loses the simple, moment by moment. ofcourse my lecturer would be a little upset if i wrote 10,000 words on zen. because zen in philosophy is ignorantly seen as a religion. infact philosophy in general i realise is very ignorant. its loses the essence of zen. it focuses on questions. to ask a good question in philosophy.. is to do good philosophy. grasping to these quesitons brings nothing but further questions. it actually causes some philosophers of the later centuries to go insane. i see a unique difference now to zen and philosophy. wisdom isnt sounding wise, its the practise. once i realised this i stopped grasping that philosophy will tell me the answers i seek. for there are no answers that need answering. my mind still as i watch it now, pops up every now and again with this question or that. i would be lying to say i dont cling to some of the questions that relate to my essay question. Just because i really want to get a good grade! silly me :)

vertical line The self is an illusion or not it doesn't bother me.

Teaching is Freedom.
Freedom is Purity.
So follow pureness.

As well
Teaching is Zazen.

I've not a philosophical mind.rather have a one works like a reflection on the mirror.

vertical line All the fears all the tears are nonsense.my humble advice is don't get caught by them.a venerable master said that 'there is nothing holy'so don't get in any trap.trap? yes trap.trap because one day you may easily see that your most powerful thought is just nonsense.when it become nonsense just remember my words; teaching is zazen XD

vertical line the wisdom of zen is so incredibly vast. the zen masters truly do have some profound things to say, that slice through my delusions and my seeking to control my life!! the last year of 'philosophy' for me was so bad. namely because it wasnt for me even philosophy. i envisoned philosophy as wisdom and understanding in life, the dharma as such. they taught doubt, existensialism, belief and questioning. i feel none of these have any relation to wisdom, life or the right practise. safe to say i feel like i just wasted a year reading dogma and delusion.

vertical line perhaps i become too lost in what is and isnt.. philosophy. clinging to the wise or holy, the refined. while being averse to coarseness, unholy, unrefined. i just like the good, wise, refined, holy. i cant easily let go. :l

vertical line Awkward isn't it? I mean all of it.

Why not find silence away from all this?

You don't have to go anywhere or change anything.

Just remember what is real.

Silence is real.

vertical line hello maapaa, i gave my many years for trying to understand what is zen. Finally i see that the masters words are like mouse holes.when you enter into from ones you can't know where you come out.surely it will be another hole next to it but that never satisfy you.and you keep wandering.you don't even know for what you are looking in the beginning.i'm not saying reading about zen is wrong.at the end, it will be your house and you can furnish it as you like.

But Zen is much about practicing.Zen is much about understanding. What i mean with understanding is living.yes, zen is consist of living practice.and that practice is meditation.

If you want to catch zen from it's vital point or lifeblood you should understand the practice first.

Will be practicing as well.

vertical line That's right, your freedom, your purity, your practice, your masters and especially your talk, they're just small sample pieces of a much larger illusion you use to kid yourself - so swap all those multi cumbersome labels for one biggy, yep, aka paranoid delusional psychosis. Meditation ain't got nuthin' to do wiv dat. Hope this helps.

vertical line Is it possible to deeply understand that one is not this person
But just the simple aggregate of this body, that there is "no ghost in the machine"
This person we all think we are, separate and alone, isn't who we really are

When a person, who I was so close to at one time, passed away, I searched and prayed for a way to see each other again
Realizing that .. that person doesn't exist.
Whoever that was. Existed for the moments that the aggregate .. put together by the body
The body taken over by Cancer. Death.
That person is gone. And I grieved.

Yes, be honest with yourself. It is the only way to move forward.
If you can see this self is an illusion then what is it that perceives this?
A reflection upon a reflection builds layers until all that is seen is the reflection
It supports itself.

In some stories, there are monks who spend their day polishing the mirror to keep it clean.
I think someone said that you can not polish a roof tile to become a mirror.
