One day, Chang-sha Ching-tsen (d. 868), one of the well-known Chinese Ch'an masters, wandered in the mountain. When he was back just at the gate of the temple, the head monk asked him:
-Where have you been, Sir?
Calm and alone Nothing done Nothing contained I observe the trees extending and shedding their limbs And the regeneration and recycling of leaves My time would seem wasted by the onlooker I don't mind I am the same
Awareness of the physical body is the exact same thing as relaxing. Relaxed means not focused. When finally the student of zen gives up his pursuit of enlightenment. Finally when everything else fails he gives up. Relaxes his focused energy for there is nothing left to do. In the moment if he can realize he can be aware with his body and relaxed energy this is enlightenment which is our original face or natural state of being. For never can you be fully relaxed if your attempting to be focused at the same time. This creates a struggle within the mind/body. An aware mind is more intelligent then a focused mind. An aware mind can connect facts. A focused mind just sees facts and cannot connect them as well.
I have found the mind that focuses on thoughts can be unable to get rid of them. Or become obsesses by them. Seen in myself and others. But a aware mind is the difference between someone who says I can't get this song out of my head to someone who knows they are singing in their heads. Where a aware mind creates thoughts. Where even remembering is a act of recreating. Without any strain. To strain to remember in truth makes it harder to remember instead of just letting the thought be created in your head. Since an aware mind creates/imagines a thought our minds are mainly imagination. If I want to imagine a cube around my body that I pretend makes me invisible I can. Or shoot lasers at people all day out of my eyes I can. Knowing this is imagination I create unbound by an attention people emulate based off other people and animals.
So in a nutshell salvation, enlightenment, natural state of being is for the imagination to totally relax and stop focusing our somatic nervous system energy. This is what animals do. Small minded unlike humans with our vast ability to imagine on large scales. Humans working within the confines of the attention create almost all their maladies. We are simply too intelligent. We are aware with the body. Always. Naturally. Only the imagined attention interferes.
You cannot cut yourself off from the world because you are a awake being aware of reality regardless if you want to be or not. You can not engage as much. But engaging in life is the whole point of life.
