MR. MOUNTAIN
Posted on Apr.29.2009 @ 10:36PM EDT by chontri

Linh Phong Zen Pagoda was the name of a pagoda which located in the Lady Mountain in Central Vietnam.
However, the villagers simply called it the Mr. Mountain Pagoda. It was built hundred years ago.

Its founder was a Chinese monk whose name has not been known exactly. Someone said that his name was Le Bang,
but not sure. The villagers simple called him Mr. Mountain because he was in the mountain year round.

It was said that his cloth were made of tree skins and he seldom went down the mountain and came to the villages around
the mountain base. At times he needed rice and salt, he chopped some woods, brought them down to the mountain base,
set them on a path side, then walked back up to the mountain. When the villagers saw the woods there,
they brought their rice and salt to and set them beside to trade for woods. They then took the woods home and used.
Next day, the monk came and took rice and salt. He never minded how much rice and salt he received.
A lot was good, a little was good, none was good, too. Whenever if any villagers got sick or an epidemic disease,
he immediately brought his herbal medicine to treat the sick. As soon as the sickness or the disease was over,
he left without asking anything even a thankful bow from the ones he took care of.
