Summary
From the Publisher
This book, a dictionary as well as a glossary, attempts to cover the entire field of Buddhism. Its terms, chosen from seven languages spoken in ten countries in at least ten major schools of Buddhism, are those that readers are most likely to find in books on Buddhism. Also included are brief biographies of eminent Buddhists and scholars from both East and West, which will provide a ready reference to authorities normally cited. A Popular Dictionary of Buddhism is a useful compilation and a key religious, ethical, and philosophical reference work in an area of study that commands increasing attention in Western society.

by Monier, Sir Monier-Williams
Publisher: Oxford University Press; Revised edition (1989) (ISBN #: 019864308X, Hardcover, 1369 pages, June 1989)

Summary
The ONLY definitive Sanskrit-English dictionary-, May 7, 1999
Reviewer: A reader
Originally published in 1899, it remains the only comprehensive Sanskrit-English dictionary, comprising 160,000 words. This is the edition published by Oxford in England, and is much clearer print and well worth it if you can't do fine print where the Devanagari script is often ink-smudged (the Indian Edition). However, if your reading vision is good, the Indian edition is exactly the same content and cheaper ($48-65), but poorer quality binding as well.

Summary
Book Description
This anthology illustrates the vast scope of Buddhist practice in Asia, past and present, by presenting a selection of forty-eight translated texts including hagiographies, monastic rules, pilgrimage songs, apocryphal sutras, and didactic tales from India, China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Burma. Most of these pieces have never before been translated into a Western language, and each is preceded by a substantial introduction by its translator. Together they are designed to do nothing less than reshape the way in which Buddhism is understood.

by Bhikkhu Bodhi & Mahathera Narada (editors)
Publisher: Pariyatti Publishing (ISBN #: 1928706029, Paperback, 400 pp, January 2000)

Summary
From the Publisher
Abhidhamma has the fearsome reputation of being somewhat juiceless to a beginner. I was delighted to find that in the introductory chapter Bhikkhu Bodhi gives his explanation of the four-fold ultimate realities in a very clear, calm, exact and expressive way. He brings to the subject a distinctively passionate voice and profound care and respect for the unfathomable wisdom of the Buddha. This is a brilliant gem of a guidebook and will lead the reader to new dimensions of the wisdom of the Buddha.

Summary
From the Publisher
Great Disciples of the Buddha is a unique book - a collection of biographical profiles of some twenty-four extraordinary men and women whom the Buddha himself named his most outstanding disciples. The stories of their lives presented here, based on the Pali Canon and its commentaries, offer a comprehensive record of the most ancient traditions concerning the Buddha's own direct Dharma heirs. In these engaging tales, told with an eye to the details of ordinary human concerns, you will meet a fascinating and diverse array of people - thinkers and seekers, princes and queens, merchants and housewives, even a serial killer - whose lives were transformed by their encounter with the Buddha. This is not a book merely to be read once and then laid aside, but a work to return to again and again for a vivid picture of the life of discipleship under the Awakened One.
