Should todays 9-5 city monks have occassional access to a master?

I am currently beginning an exploration of Zen starting from a unique vantage point (as we all do, I suppose). Spirtually, I consider myself an eclectic Christian. I have positively benefitted from Zen inspired texts such as "Zen in the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "Godel, Escher, Bach", and "Zen in the Art of Archery". My interests in Zen, however, is more closely connected to my efforts to arrive at a better understanding of my nature as a musician. The unknowable essence of Zen resonates strongly with the concept of swing in jazz music. Opening oneself to swing, funk, groove is akin to achieving the freedom of zen in my opinion. I submit my guestbook entry and welcome any comments or replies to how jazz and zen buddhism are compatible.
